Am I eligible for residential treatment?
Residential treatment services are available male and females, ages 18 and over, who have a
primary substance use disorder diagnosis. Individuals who require detoxification or who have
an unstable psychiatric or medical condition will not be eligible for admission.

How do I get into residential treatment?
The program is available for referral or direct admission. Calls can be made to the Foundation's
Access Center to coordinate transfers from other programs or direct admissions by dialing (203)
781-4357. In addition, the Foundation's Access Center has walk-in hours (8:00 a.m.-12p.m,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., Friday) for all individuals
seeking admission to the Foundation's programs and individuals are seen on a first come first
serve basis during these hours.

Individual's seeking admission participate in a 1:1 evaluation with a Master's trained and
licensed clinician, lasting 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the type of services that may
be indicated. Upon completion of the evaluation and a review of the assessment tools, those
who are identified during their intake-evaluation as needing an inpatient level of care, will be
referred to RSD.

While in treatment can I send and receive mail?
You are permitted to send and receive mail while at RSD. Envelopes can be provided to you if needed.
If you need assistance with postage, please give your mail to a Technician who will see that postage
is applied to your mail. Mail will be distributed and collected daily by the Technicians. Any packages
received will be requested to be opened in front of staff for security purposes. All incoming mail will be
screened by Technicians with residents for security purposes.

While in treatment can I make and receive phone calls:
Two (2) pay phones are located on the Ground Floor and one pay phone is located on the Second Floor.
Phone calls should be limited to 10 minutes for the courtesy of all residents who may wish to use the
telephone. You will need to call Collect or use a Pre-paid phone card to operate the pay phones. In
cases of emergency or if you need to contact your Probation/Parole Officer, attorney or Community
Enforcement Officer, you can request to use the staff phone through a Technician or your Counselor.
Staff will supervise all phone calls made using the staff telephone.

While in treatment can my family and friends visit me?
Yes, you will be assigned a Visitation Schedule. Visitations are only permitted during Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays evenings from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Weekend visits are only for residents
who have children. Children (accompanied by one adult) may visit you during the hours of 1:00pm –
5:00pm. No visits are allowed in the dorm room areas at any time. Sexual contact/relations are not
permitted at any time.

What is your smoking policy?
Please be aware that the APT Foundation and RSD are smoke free environments. Therefore, no smoking is permitted at any time within the building including your dorm room, bathroom and laundry areas.
Smoking is also prohibited in agency vehicles. You will be provided assistance to stop smoking if you
desire, through the use of a nicotine patch/ gum prescribed by the Medical Staff. If you are discovered
smoking in the building this can be grounds for discharge. So please, refrain from smoking in APT
facilities and vehicles at all times. If you choose to continue to smoke while you are in treatment, you
will be permitted to have up to seven outdoor smoke breaks per day.

How do I pay for treatment?
At the APT Foundation, money shouldn't be a barrier to your treatment. Medicaid LIA and all private
insurance carriers are accepted. If you are uninsured, the APT Foundation has a sliding scale payment
policy that makes treatment affordable for everyone.

Description of Services Offered: RSD is an intensive in-patient addiction services program for adults with primary problems related to substance abuse or dependence. The treatment program at RSD consists of a clinical program, an in-house work program and therapeutic treatment milieu. Each client’s treatment program is tailored to the individual client’s treatment needs and goals.

The clinical program provides clients’ with 20 hours per week of group and individual treatment. Treatment includes group therapy, psycho-educational groups, therapeutic leisure activity groups, community meetings, and in-house NA/AA meeting as well as individual sessions. Clinical Services are primarily provided by licensed or certified staff. In addition to the clinical program, psychiatric services are provided by APT attending psychiatrists.

The in-house work program provides clients with the opportunity to develop or improve work skills and to learn discipline, respect, responsibility and teamwork.

The therapeutic treatment milieu or treatment community provides a sense of belonging and an opportunity for clients to develop healthy relationships with others.

Length of Program:Length of stay is determined based on each person's unique clinically determined treatment needs and referral source.
